Oia – Santorini Wedding Photographer | S&K

Samantha and Kevin flew us to Santorini, Greece for their European adventure to renew their vows.

They married nearly 6 years ago, but never felt that their wedding day was what they envisioned or wanted. The pressures of familial obligations, societal expectations and logistics got the best of them and their wedding ended up filled with tears and regret. They decided they would renew their vows to each other after their 5th wedding anniversary.

I didn’t meet S&K until the morning of their vow renewal. Their vision was to have an unplanned wedding, without the timelines or stresses of the conventional elopement or wedding. The only appointment they made was for Samantha’s hair, and the rest was spontaneous. They decided on Oia on the Greek island of Santorini to celebrate.

Arriving in Oia, I was in awe of the stunning landscape and how the cliffs dropped steeply into the caldera below. Santorini was formed by the eruption of it’s own volcano (which you can see in their ceremony photos!) and it’s landscape is like no other. I was also in awe of the crowds, but with such a relaxed schedule, it was easy to work around as we needed to (something those postcards don’t warn you about!).

S&K’s beautiful and quaint traditional cliffside home had sweeping views of Oia. Knocking on the iconic blue door, I met them for the first time. After preparations, we ventured out onto the streets of Oia to capture some portraits, followed by Gelato at Lolita, the petting of many greek cats, and a lovely lunch of Greek salad and Greek beer en route. We hiked to the furthermost point in Oia (4km round trip in 35 degree weather and hot sun!), and it was here on a dusty cliffside that they performed their vow renewal ceremony. The whole day suited them perfectly – relaxed and adventurous. We finished the day walking back to their suite for a glass of bubbly before parting ways at sunset.
