I’m Heather
Being back home in St. John’s has reminded me how much meaning lives in the places and moments that feel ordinary at the time — a midnight coffee on Signal Hill, a walk through Quidi Vidi, music drifting out onto Water Street. Those are the things that stick with you later.
These are the things that bring me back to really special times in my life. When I lived away, these memories brought me back to that feeling when I couldn’t be here in person, or remember the tiny details.
I picked up my first camera when I was 10 or 11, taking photos of my pets and toys in front of blanket backdrops. I learned the technical side in the darkroom in high school before eventually studying Fine Art (BFA) in university and building this into my full-time career.
The loss of my sister early in my career reinforced how important it is to actually have these moments documented. It gave me a personal attachment to capturing memories that has stayed with me.
When I began photographing weddings in 2011, what immediately stood out to me was how much happens outside the “main events.” The unplanned moments and those with deep connection.
I’m not looking for a perfectly staged version of the day — I’m paying attention to the real interactions, the small shifts, and the moments people don’t realize are happening.
Outside of photography, I spend a lot of time exploring the world, exploring new art and drinking more coffee than I should. I’m also a mom to a busy toddler, which means I’m used to unpredictability, reading energy quickly, and keeping things moving without making it feel rushed/stressful (a skill that translates well to weddings & portraits!). My husband and I also eloped in Iceland, so I know firsthand what it feels like to be on the other side of the camera.
I want you to embrace and celebrate your love for your people in a real and organic way. Let me make sure you remember everything so these moments become your Signal Hill at midnight memory.
GROUNDED INTENTION
I’m here for the people who aren’t afraid to show their people they love them. Thoughtful gestures, outward expressions of appreciation, gratitude and joy. People who value memories and the importance their intentional photos will be for generations to come (especially in a world of disposable images).
I’ll bring calm energy, organization and expertise so all of the moments with me alongside you are well spent and memorable. I always aim to return to the simplicity of human connection in everything I do.
