YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER
Meet Heather
I am based in St. John’s NL, having recently move home from BC. Being home after being away is special. Each place you visit has magical and nostalgic memories attached. It’s images of these places and times that trigger emotion all these years later.
– Signal Hill on a late evening with a coffee and a friend.
– Walking around Quidi Vidi and a pop into the brewery to warm up.
– Driving the Irish Loop and anticipating Caribou.
– Peeking through the tunnel in Brigus at age 5, 10, 40!
– Walking past my old haunts on Water Street, this time with a baby on my hip hearing the music pouring from Erin’s.
These are the things that bring me back to really special times in my life. When I lived away, images of these places are what brought me back to that feeling when I couldn’t be here in person, or when I couldn’t remember the tiny details.
I picked up my first camera when I was 11, taking photos of my puppy and my friends in front of blankets as backdrops. I learned the basics early on, using black and white film and developing the photos myself in the darkroom. By University, I had decided to pursue photography and art professionally.
In 2011, right after finishing school I started photographing weddings – as I was planning my own – I fell in love with the unspoken and unplanned moments. I also loved connecting with new people and seeing their connection unfold in front of me.
I hit a pivotal life-turned-upside-down moment in 2012, losing my sister who was 9 years younger than me to a car accident. I learned hard that these moments we have and the memories we share aren’t everlasting, that they shouldn’t be taken for granted. We had no family photos together. Two months after her passing, it was a meaningful professional photo of her that sat on a chair in in the front row of my own wedding.
I have been photographing weddings, elopements and portraits as my full-time job for over ten years, 350+ weddings to date. My whole heart and livelihood put into this passion of mine. I take it very seriously.
I take a lot of photos, but what’s most important to me is printing them, sharing them, and connecting by reminiscing over them. They are visible in my daily life as a reminder of how short life is and what I have had, lost, still have and am grateful for every day.
I want you to embrace and celebrate your love for your people in a real and organic way. Let me make sure you remember everything about it so it becomes your Signal Hill at Midnight memory. Always there, always warm and cozy.

GROUNDED INTENTION
I’m here for the people who aren’t afraid to show their people they love them. Thoughtful gestures, outward expressions of appreciation, gratitude and joy. People who value memories and the importance their intentional photos will be for generations to come (especially in a word of disposable images).
I’ll bring calm energy, organization and expertise so all of the moments with me alongside you are well spent and memorable. I always aim to return to the simplicity of human connection in everything I do.
A FEW TIDBITS
01.
I’M A PROUD NEWFOUNDLANDER
I fell in love with the PNW during University (UVic BFA) and have lived all over Canada and the west coast of the USA. I recently moved home to St. John’s Newfoundland, but my heart remains deeply rooted on Vancouver Island. I go back as often as I can! (I don’t have an accent though)!

02.
I ELOPED IN ICELAND
We decided to get married during a global pandemic and took off to Iceland with our photographer only and eloped in the continental divide in the freezing rain. No regrets! (we took this photo a couple of days later on our portrait adventure session!)

03.
ANIMALS LOVE ME & I LOVE THEM BACK
Cats, dogs, even kids. They all flock to me and I don’t mind one bit! I’ll always stop to pet the animals and have a little snuggle.

04.
IN MY SPARE TIME…
You’ll find me spending time with my baby girl, traveling, making art, learning to play piano, reading a novel (sci-fi, classics, modern lit), at a concert, or on the couch with my fam watching wonderfully bad reality TV or crime dramas. I also eat a lot of sweets.
