Merridale Cidery Wedding Photographer | Alyssha & Rob | Vancouver Island Wedding Photography
Alyssha and Rob were set up by mutual friends, and connected in a more modern way via Instagram. Alyssha’s friend urged her to add Rob to Instragram to see if he would be interested. They interacted by hearting each others photos for a while, until her friend intervened and told her to send him a message as “he would be waiting for it”. Of course, Rob had no idea about any of it. Alyssha sent over a meme with a creepy school kids photo saying “Sliding into your DM’s like…”. Little did she know, but the text portion didn’t show up in his preview of the photo, so he just got the creepy image. Luckily, it was fate and it turns out it was the perfect ice-breaker, setting the tone for their future of belly slapping (read on) humour.
Rob popped the question while he was home from Alberta where he works. He had planned a getaway, booking a cabin on Vancouver Island. They ate themselves stupid into the night and went back to their room, where Rob went through a back and forth of where to pop the question. He had planned to propose on the beach, but underestimating the appetite of Alyssha and how long they would spend at the restaurant, it was dark when they finished their meal. He finally decided on the deck and asked Alyssha to join him. She told him to hold on, as her pants were too tight because she ate too much, and proceeded to unbutton her pants, pull up her shirt, and slap her belly to demonstrate. Moments later, he gave her a build-a-bear that looked just like him, down the converse sneakers and wallet chain and when it’s tummy was pressed (fate, I tell you), it asked her to marry him. He pulled out the ring, and the rest is history.
Alyssha and Rob tied the knot on a rainy October day under the shelter of the big white tent at Merridale Cidery in Shawnigan Lake. Her son Asher escorted her down the aisle with her dad, giving her away to the man of her dreams. Their day was so unique to them both, and they embraced every second of the downpour they ended up in for their portraits. We loved every detail, from Rob’s signature converse to Alyssha’s custom leather jacket that said “Til’ death” which is a nod to Rob’s obsession with motorcycles. Day quickly turned to night and we huddled under the deck with their guests for some of the best speeches we’ve heard to date, including one from Alyssha’s son Asher that had everyone in tears.
We want to send a huge congratulations to these two, on surviving a torrential downpour on their wedding day, and on finding their person in this great big world. Congrats! Here’s a peek at their day.
