N&R | Iceland Budir Elopement Photographer

We almost peed our pants when Natasha and Rico agreed to have us along as the only two attendees of their incredible Iceland Destination Wedding at the stunning Hotel Budir on the Snaefellsnes peninsula in west Iceland. This was our first trip to Iceland (accompanied by the ever amazing Brodie Frehlich Photography) and after dreaming of the day when we could shoot here, we were on our way overseas to share in the intimate ceremony of this amazing couple.

We arrived in Iceland and ventured west to this isolated area that juts into the north atlantic. The weather was uncooperative, but we didn’t mind. We spent some time in the morning with Natasha and Rico as they prepped separately at the hotel. Natasha chatted with family via video chat while she prepped her hair and makeup while we steamed her dress and grabbed her detail shots. Rico enjoyed a last “single beer” as he called it, and a coffee while he eagerly awaited his bride-to-be. The hotel itself was small but made up for this with its incredible character and charm. Poised over the bay, he and the officiant headed to their ceremony location on a cliff overlooking the ocean.

Natasha finished her prep and told me “Don’t let me run. Not away, but towards Rico!”. We wandered through the hotel grabbing a few shots along the way, and meandered our way up the grassy paths to the location where Rico awaited. Their ceremony was intimate and filled with Icelandic metaphors and stories and we felt so in tune with the location and beauty of both the scenery and our Bride and Groom! The ceremony was topped off with champagne before we explored the area with these two, taking in the scenery and their chemistry! We lucked out as they chose their wedding day on one of the longest days of the year in Iceland. The sun set at 12:50am and rose again at 2:30am. This allowed us to shoot until nearly 1am and the light was just stunning. We couldn’t have asked for a better day in this amazing country and cannot wait to go back!
